The 81st International Film Festival is currently taking place in the beautiful city of Venice, a city built on water. The festival began on August 28 and will conclude on September 8, 2024. This is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. The festival was first held in 1932 and gained great popularity, becoming an annual event in 1935. The Venice Film Festival is now a highly regarded event that presents a selection of world-class films every year, bringing some of the most successful directors, actors, and actresses to the red carpet at Lido di Venezia. A wide variety of feature films and documentaries from around the world participate in this historic festival.
Many films compete for the coveted Golden Lion (Leone d’Oro) award, while others participate to represent their countries or showcase their artistic work. While attending the event, I was pleasantly surprised to see the Nepali flag waving at the venue.
This year, in fact, the Nepali movie Pooja Sir has been selected to participate, and it was screened at this historic event. Pooja Sir movie is made on the base of true story which was directed by Deepak Rauniyar. I believe the participation of a Nepali movie in this prestigious and historic festival plays a pivotal role in promoting Nepal on the world stage.
